In recent years, innovation has taken on a prominent role to the point where it has become an important topic in undergraduate and postgraduate curricula. The challenge of educating innovative professionals adds to another challenge that impacts the mining industry: understanding mining in a territorial context, with the socio-environmental implications that each project has in its surroundings. If engineering schools once focused on delivering primarily technical knowledge to their students, today, this knowledge must be complemented with aspects that are closer to the social sciences and are often central when it comes to mining
